With my new job going well so far, visions (delusions?) of a new track toy are dancing in my head.

I'm thinking '99 3.0L BMW z3 M Coupe with a roll cage and hitch for me trailer.  Fast, decent handling, gorgeous.  I can probably score a good one for $15-20k if I'm patient.

A new GTI to double as a commute car would be sweet, too, though the one I want could cost about $30k.

Hey Andie... we could always use the S as a track toy instead.   Grin

That is an expensive track toy.

Why not go with a FI Miata?  In the long run, it will be cheaper to run and maintain if the job does not pan out.

And, what are you doing?  Congrats on the new job!

Thanks John.  I landed a gig as an outside sales rep for an international freight broker.  I'm still training on the inside to learn the industry jargon, but I should be turned loose in a week or three.  The base salary is just enough to pay the bills, but the commissions could be significant.  If this works out then I'm going to pay off the S, buy Andie an IS350 or G35 and then set my sights on a track toy that will probably double as my daily driver.  I haven't necessarily ruled out a charged Miata, but I'd prefer something that is more of a dream car.  The new GTI doesn't fit that description, but the z3 M coupe sure does.  I've coveted that ever since seeing a killer red one at Thunderhill years ago.

I went to a shop in SC that got those BMW's right off the assembly line.  When a new car model comes out, the line needs to be tested.  The first several cars that come off the line are built without VIN numbers, and are slated to be destroyed.  This guy had a deal with BMW where he got those cars and turned them into race cars.

If did not have the S2000 to drive around (not that I actually drive it anywhere) I would want something better than the Miata to do double duty.

As for the freight job, I hope it works well.  Vivian has a number of friends that own freight forwarding businesses.
