It seems to happen every year with the A's. They always find the need to trade a player that is loved by the fans. A few years ago, it was Eric Byrnes. He's still a fan favorite. Now he's creating his magic with the Diamondbacks. This year, the unlucky A to get traded is Marco Scutaro. At the start of each season, he was always slated for a backup role (SS, 2B, 3B). The typical utility man. But somehow, through major injuries with key players, he always played the whole season. One year, replacing Ellis at second, another year taking over Bobby Crosby's spot at short. When Spring Training arrived, the fans would wonder if he was able to Wally Pipp the player he had filled in for. He spent some time at third this past season for Eric Chavez, as well as Short and Second. He even dabbled in the outfield this past season. Although, I believe his strongest positions were up the middle. But he was always there in the clutch: Nine walk offs while with the A's. Wow I really don't know much about the guys we got for him. They are a couple of ground-ball pitchers that spent the '07 season in Single A and aren't even considered top prospects. One is from the '04 draft and the other from '06. Come on, the guy from '04 should have been out of Single A a couple of years ago..... I know I should have some faith is Billie Beane's moves. He's rarely really screwed things up. But damn it, this was MAAARCOOO............SCOOOOOOTAAAROOOOO

This really sucks. Why he keeps doing this I don't know, but many of the fave players Beane launches go on to kick ass elsewhere: Milton Bradley, Eric Byrnes, Tim Hudson, etc. Scutaro isn't a frontline player, but honestly he was the best clutch performer we've had since Miggy left. His defense was stellar up the middle. This Donnie Murphy kid won't be able to fill his shoes. I would rather see Bobby Crosby cut and Scutaro starting at short and batting ninth.

Actually, the Phillies are well known for not making ANY winter moves that actually would make a difference.

This isn't a move I hate, per say: Miggie from the O's to the 'Stros in a 5 for 1 deal. And only days before the Mitchell report. I'm sure Miggie's name is toward the top of the list in that report. He grew too quickly during his time with the A's. But I still like him and I think he's a great SS.

I just saw it last night. I was wondering what kind of deal the Phillies offered, if any at all. This is an example of the non-moves I was talking about by the Phillies in the off-season. They just let him go and now they have to find someone to replace him. I can tell you one thing it won't make me do...root for the Giants. I can't stand them.

Well, Beane (and the A's) did one yesterday: Danny Haren to the D-Backs for 6 prospects. Three lefties, an infielder and two outfielders or Haren and a minor league reliever.

Yeah, Beane is thinking of a total rebuild. It sucks. Swish was a not only a fan favorite, but clubhouse and reporters too. He would always sit and talk, and talk, and talk....Everyone was an old friend. It's that W. Va. country boy style. And the fact he's been around the game all his life. His dad, Steve Swisher, was a 1st round draft pick for the White Sox in 73. In another touch of 6 degrees of seperation: His dad was traded from St. Louis to the Padres in '80 for Rollie Fingers, Gene Tenace (both former A's) and Bob Geren (the current A's Manager).

Total rebuilds are rough. You have to deal with a lousy team for about 3 years with no gurantee that they will improve.

You can add Mark Kotsay to that list, now. They just shipped him off to Atlanta for more crap....a right hander by the name of Devine.
